Welcome to In The Light of Truth, a podcast where biblical truth meets real life. Whether you’re new to the Bible or have studied it for years, this is a space for honest conversations about the struggles, joys, and peace we experience as followers of Christ. Walking with God isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. Let’s grow together in the light of truth.
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”— 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)
Today’s episode covers something many of us wrestle with: how to be an ambassador of Christ in the workplace. With so much of modern workplace culture clashing with God’s Word, it can be difficult to know how to stand firm in truth—while still showing love and grace to those around us.
What Does It Mean to Be an Ambassador?
The word “ambassador” may sound lofty or intimidating, but Scripture is clear: every believer represents Christ. Just like a brand ambassador reflects the values and image of a company, we are called to reflect the heart of Jesus in everything we do—especially in places like our schools, jobs, and communities.
Being an ambassador means being intentional in how we interact, how we speak, how we lead, and how we love. And nowhere is that more tested than in the workplace.
Obeying Authority…Even When It’s Hard
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”— Colossians 3:23
Let’s be honest: we’ve all had difficult bosses or faced policies that challenge our convictions. But Scripture commands us to serve with integrity and obedience, unless what’s asked of us directly violates God’s Word.
Paul reminds us in Colossians 3:22–24 that we are not just working for a paycheck—we’re working for the Lord. Even when we disagree or feel overlooked, we can choose to serve faithfully and honor God in how we respond.
The Danger of Gossip in the Workplace
One of the most common pitfalls in the workplace is gossip, especially during informal moments like lunch breaks.
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up.”— Ephesians 4:29
We each have a choice when conversations turn unproductive or harmful. Will we:
Engage and add fuel to the fire?
Stay silent and quietly disapprove?
Or take a bold step and redirect the conversation with truth and kindness?
As ambassadors, we are called to speak with grace, build others up, and remember that our words either contribute to the light or to the darkness. What we say—and what we refuse to say—matters deeply.
Five Ways to Be an Ambassador of Christ at Work
Ashton shared a powerful framework that can guide our day-to-day interactions:
Live with Integrity – Keep your word and stay honest.
Demonstrate Love – Show compassion to everyone, even when it's hard.
Be a Peacemaker – Resolve conflict biblically and calmly.
Speak with Grace – Let your words reflect Jesus.
Represent Christ Boldly and Faithfully – Don’t shy away from standing in truth.
Each of these points challenges us to rise above the culture of complaint, sarcasm, and self-promotion—and instead, walk in the Spirit with humility and boldness.
Handling Conflict the Right Way
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone.”— Matthew 18:15
Let’s be real—conflict happens. But how we handle it says a lot about our witness. The world might encourage venting or gossiping, but Scripture tells us to go directly to the person involved. That approach might feel awkward or scary, but it is the path to peace, reconciliation, and integrity.
As Christians, we must resist the temptation to lash out or stir division. Instead, we respond with truth and love, trusting the Holy Spirit to guide our steps.
Creating Boundaries in Community
Being a light in the world doesn’t mean being shaped by it.
If we’re constantly surrounding ourselves with non-believers outside of our control (like coworkers), we must be even more intentional about the people we do choose to spend time with. Community matters.
Ask yourself:
Who do I go to for advice?
Are my closest relationships honoring God?
Am I allowing someone to pull me away from Christ?
“Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’”— 1 Corinthians 15:33
Having boundaries doesn’t mean being unkind—it means being wise. We’re called to love the world, but not to conform to it.
Responding vs. Reacting
In every hard conversation, disagreement, or confrontation, we’re faced with a choice: Will I react emotionally, or respond with wisdom?
“Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.”— James 1:19
Reacting often leads to regret. But slowing down, praying, and allowing the Spirit to guide your response can make the difference between division and discipleship. You never know how your calm, gracious response might plant a seed of faith in someone else.
Letting Your Light Shine
Being an ambassador doesn’t mean preaching at every opportunity. Sometimes it means choosing silence. Sometimes it means asking how someone’s doing. Sometimes it means simply living in such a way that others are drawn to the light in you.
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.”— Romans 12:14
Whether it’s the office, a classroom, or even the grocery store—we're called to carry Christ with us. The world needs His truth and love, and He has chosen us to reflect that.
Final Encouragement
If you're struggling to be a light in your workplace or environment, you're not alone. We’re in this with you—and more importantly, God is with you. Ask Him for strength, wisdom, and the courage to live boldly for Him.
Let your workplace be a mission field. Let your life preach the gospel, even when your words don’t. And remember: we are Christ’s ambassadors—everywhere we go.
