Welcome to In The Light of Truth, a podcast where biblical truth meets real life. Whether you’re new to the Bible or have studied it for years, this is a space for honest conversations about the struggles, joys, and peace we experience as followers of Christ. Walking with God isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. Let’s grow together in the light of truth.
Fear Is a Spirit
The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
This verse reveals something many don’t realize: fear is not just a feeling—it’s a spirit, and it’s not from God. As believers, we are not meant to live under fear’s control. Instead, we’ve been given the Holy Spirit, who fills us with power, love, and a sound mind.
Fear is a tool of the enemy. Satan knows our weaknesses and wounds, and he uses fear to keep us stuck, anxious, and doubting God’s goodness. But fear is a liar. It prevents us from embracing the life God has called us to and robs us of the freedom Christ has already won.
The Root of Fear
For many, fear takes root early. It can grow into controlling behaviors, pride, or even obsessive habits. Left unchecked, fear spreads like an untreated wound, producing anxiety and bondage. But God, in His mercy, reveals the roots of our fears and calls us into healing.
Through Scripture, prayer, and godly counsel, He exposes fear for what it is—a lie—and offers us freedom through Christ. Joshua 1:9 reminds us:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Over and over, God tells His people: Do not be afraid. Not because battles won’t come, but because He is with us.
Taking Authority in Christ
We overcome fear by taking authority in Jesus’ name. Sometimes the enemy whispers, “Do you really mean what you say? Do you really believe?” But our confidence rests not in ourselves, but in our identity in Christ.
Fear often shows up when we feel out of control. But faith is not about having all the answers—it’s about trusting God with the unknown. When we surrender control to Him, peace follows. As Isaiah 26:3 says:
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Freedom from Bondage
Fear is bondage. It lies, telling us this is just who we are or that we’ll never change. But Jesus died to break every chain, including the chains of fear. His love is greater than any anxiety, lie, or attack from the enemy. Because of the cross, we can walk in freedom.
This doesn’t mean fear never tries to creep back in. But now we can recognize it, reject it, and replace it with God’s truth. Instead of living in fear, we can live by faith—surrendering to God daily and trusting Him with our lives.
Walking Together in Freedom
Overcoming fear is not something we do alone. God designed us for fellowship—with Him, with His Word, and with the body of Christ. Whether through a church community, Christian counseling, or prayer partners, we need each other to uncover hidden roots of fear and grow in truth.
The journey takes time, but God is faithful. He will continue to reveal, heal, and strengthen us as we surrender to Him.
Final Encouragement
You don’t have to live in fear. Fear is not who you are. Fear is a lie from the enemy. In Christ, you are loved, you are free, and you are empowered by His Spirit. Trust Him, surrender to Him, and walk in His perfect peace.
