Welcome to In The Light of Truth, a podcast where biblical truth meets real life. Whether you’re new to the Bible or have studied it for years, this is a space for honest conversations about the struggles, joys, and peace we experience as followers of Christ. Walking with God isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. Let’s grow together in the light of truth.
This episode begins a two-part series on the attributes of God. When we talk about God’s attributes, we aren’t just describing what He does; we’re describing who He is. These are not temporary qualities or moments—these are the very essence of His being. And the more clearly we understand who God is, the more clearly we understand who we are, and how we are called to live in relationship with Him.
Today, we’re focusing on several core attributes:
1. God is Holy
Holiness means God is completely set apart—pure, perfect, and without sin.
Isaiah 6:3 says, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory.”
God’s holiness reminds us why we need Jesus. Because God is perfect, sin cannot stand in His presence. Through Christ, we are made holy—not through our own effort, but through His grace. Holiness is a process of sanctification, shaped by the Holy Spirit over time. As we grow, sin becomes less appealing because our hearts long to reflect the One who saved us.
2. God is Eternal
Psalm 90:2 says, “From everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
God has no beginning and no end. He is outside of time, yet He chooses to step into our time and walk with us. When life feels uncertain or unstable, His eternality gives us rest. The same God who was faithful in Scripture is the same God who is faithful today—and the same God who will be faithful forever.
Knowing that He sees all of time at once helps us trust Him. His plans for us are perfect, even when we don’t understand the moment we’re in.
3. God is Immutable (Unchanging)
Malachi 3:6 says, “For I the Lord do not change.”
Everything in life shifts—our circumstances, emotions, seasons, culture, and relationships. But God does not. His character, His promises, and His purposes remain constant.
Because He is unchanging, He is completely trustworthy. We cannot place our ultimate hope in people or systems that change. Our security must be in the God who never does.
4. God is Truth
Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
Truth isn’t something God looks for; it’s something He is. His Word is entirely reliable and does not shift with opinion, culture, or trends. In a world filled with confusion and “my truth,” God’s truth stands firm.
Scripture is a gift that anchors us. When we read it, we build our lives on something unshakeable.
5. God is Personal
God is not distant, detached, or unreachable. He is Emmanuel—God with us.
He desires relationship, not religion. He listens when we pray. He knows our thoughts, our wounds, and every detail of our life—even the number of hairs on our head. He longs for closeness with His children.
Like any relationship, intimacy with God grows through time spent with Him—through prayer, Scripture, and quiet moments where we let Him speak to our hearts. He is always near, always present, always ready to receive us.
6. God is Jealous
Exodus 34:14 says, “For the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”
This is not sinful human jealousy. God’s jealousy is holy, pure, and protective. He desires our full devotion because nothing else can satisfy our souls. His jealousy guards our heart from wandering toward things that ultimately harm us.
We belong to Him, and His jealousy reflects His deep love—not selfishness, but protection.
7. God is Judge
Psalm 9:8 says, “He will judge the world in righteousness.”
God’s judgment is not cruelty—it’s justice. He sees every wrong and holds every deed accountable. This aspect of His character should humble us and comfort us. A God who is holy must also be just.
Yet for those in Christ, the penalty of our sin has already been paid. The judgment we deserved fell on Jesus. Because of His sacrifice, we stand forgiven and redeemed.
These attributes show us a God who is holy, eternal, unchanging, truthful, personal, jealous for our hearts, and perfectly just. And in all of these things, He is good.
Thank you for joining today. May this draw you closer to the heart of who God truly is. Stay tuned for Part II.
